Journey from hot summers to chilly winters
Coming to Canada for me was a dream come true. Since I came to Canada everyday I learn something new which fascinates me to explore more. Everything is new for me here.New people, new culture and new opportunities.I will start with my first day in Canada. It was cold chilly day of December 5,2013.I was wearing a red hoody jacket as I was trying to be stylish. But as soon as I came out of the Airport Terminal I was literally shivering. That was my first chilly experience in Canada.
The year I came to Canada was the coldest year in Canada.Everything I saw around me was frozen.I felt as if I entered a fairyland covered with snow all around.I was quite happy as I have never seen snowing in my life. You can very well see from my pics how much fun I had on that day.I was just clicking pics at every corner of the place.

From airport when I was going to my Aunt's house I was wondering how
people live here as back home even temperature around 5 degree Celsius is like
hell for us.But here temperature goes below 0 degree Celsius like -18 degree
Celsius. That is kind of crazy! Don't you feel coming from a hot country like
India.Every Indian would relate to me in this perspective. After 20 mins drive
we all reached home. When I entered into the house it was so warm. I was
so surprised to know that houses are actually made of wood in Canada with
insulation which keep the houses warm. Each house has heat system
installed in it which makes inner environment of house so cozy that you forget
about outer temperature for a time being. This all was told to me by my uncle as
he does construction work.
Continuing further when I was about to step outside home, my aunt told
me to wear snowshoes. She told me that I would not be able to wear my sandals or
shoes here as I will not be able to walk on snow.I was kind of upset with
the whole thing as I was not able to wear my clothes and shoes which I brought
along with me.I had to buy snowshoes and a long jacket to protect myself. It was
snowing all around in Canada.I liked the snow for first few weeks than I was
quite pissed of with all this. But nothing was in my hand which I could have
changed so I adjusted somehow with everything.
When my aunt took me to shopping I asked my aunt how you gonna drive as
there is snow all around. At that I came to know that in order to avoid skidding
on roads due to snow, cars should have snow tires which was yet another new
thing for me.Each day I was learning about something new which was kind of fun
for me.As I am very inquisitive person.I also came to know that in Canada
traffic rules are very stringent and road safety of every individual is given
very much importance.Everybody sitting in a car has to put their seat belts and
one can't drink and drive in Ontario(Canada).Drinking and driving is
considered as a crime equal to murdering someone in Canada.Canada is also
considered as a peaceful country as the crime rate is very low in Canada.
Standard of living is very high in Canada. Each individual of a house
ranging from teenager to old grandpa or grandma works here. That is why
unemployment rate is very low in Canada.
This was all about my first acquaintance with Canadian winter and Canada on the
whole.I would like you to share your experiences or stories about your visit to
Canada with me.
well well, what an amazingly sincere and genuine voice you have when pressed to write 600 words. I laughed I cried ... This is very strong blogging. Its full of great ideas and insights, and if you were to keep this up you would soon have daily or weekly readers as many people would like to see life in Canada as you do, from your fresh perspective.
ReplyDeleteHi Shailpreet,
ReplyDeleteWelcome to Canada. It is always interesting to read about newcomers' comments on the experiences they go through since I have been living in this country for so long I am accustomed to the lifestyle here. Some of the things you mention don't seem strange to me because I have lived and grown with them in the past 13 years.
Looking forward to reading more about your adventures and comparisons.
